Times Square Hotel

Crafted Structure in Lower Manhattan

Hotel Langwell was a symbol of Times Square’s golden age. Yet the German Renaissance-style hotel had lost some of its shine. A top-to-bottom makeover was in order, directed by new owner AKA hotels. Agencie was appointed structural engineer for this ambitious project.

Central to our work was upgrading the elevator. The elevator shaft required extension and then a full elevator replacement. To add to the complexity, the hotel remained open whilst this took place. Shrewd sequencing ensured hotel operations ran smoothly.

Atop the entrance marquee is an iconic blade sign, gracing the 44th Street frontage. This was upgraded. Agencie engineered the secure attachment of the new sign structure to the existing cast iron fixture. LEDs also stud the sign. Today, the hotel has a streamlined, contemporary look. There are additional guest rooms, a luxurious penthouse and roof garden. Accessible, of course, via the latest elevator installation.
